About CMCT Ministries

CMCT’s ministries was started by Colleen Redit in Chennai, Tamil Nadu State, India in 1964.  When Colleen was 24 years old she left Whanganui, NZ and travelled to India to take the gospel of Jesus to the desperately poor in the city of Chennai.  After two years of studying Tamil language, Colleen began girls’ clubs called Rallies.  She then started visiting the girls in their homes.  Colleen saw poor, illiterate, teenage girls languishing at home, having never been to school or work; just waiting for an arranged marriage.  This broke her heart.  Prayerfully seeking God’s direction, she began teaching them sewing skills, literacy and the Good News of Jesus.  This how CMCT began.

Initially run out of Dr. Colleen’s garage as a refuge for underprivileged girls, CMCT has grown to encompass 26 specific areas of ministry work.  It ministers to the downtrodden, the destitute, the abandoned, the marginalised, and the sick through a range of services such as education, training, child sponsorship, medical care, food distribution, and accommodation.

After more than 50 years of ministry, in 2019 Colleen handed the mantle over to Mr. Mani Manjul Phillip, CEO of CMCT.  CMCT is now overseen an executive team of five men and supported by an international board.  Colleen's love, vision and passion for the poorest of the poor in india remains as strong as ever however!

PCF's Mission Connection with CMCT

PCF, along with two other churches in NZ, were the commending churches that prayed for and sent out Colleen Redit as she established CMCT in India.  We have continued to financially support, through ongoing and annual gifts, the work and ministry of CMCT amongst the poorest of the poor in Chennai. Our desire as a church is to continue to support the Christian workers in CMCT and people who are being helped through prayer, financially and practically.  The NZ CMCT representatives, Peter & Karen Brookes, visit PCF annually to bring updates and Haven of Hope handicrafts which are sold to support the women and families helped through that ministry arm.  We receive a monthly prayer support update from Dr Colleen so we journey with her and the CMCT team daily as they serve the Lord.

How Can I Help?

You can pray for the CMCT  ministry workers during the covid pandemic, that God will protect them as they continue to go out into the communities to bring food, medicines and practical helps to the poorest of poor.  Pray that the Lord will give these ministry workers opportunities to share the reason for the hope that they have - Jesus.

Please contact the PCF office for the latest CMCT daily prayer sheet.
